Welcome to the Dark Night
This feeling of being “trapped in the loop,” of constant questioning and disorientation, has a name in spiritual traditions: the “dark night of the soul.”
It’s a period of profound spiritual crisis, a necessary stage of growth where everything you thought you knew is stripped away.
The Characteristics of the Dark Night:
-
No Going Back: You can’t go back to the old, simple certainty. That door is closed forever. The dream is over.
-
No New Certainty (Yet): The new certainties haven’t been established. You’re in limbo, floating between worlds, with no solid ground beneath your feet.
-
Stuck Between Worlds: You’re stuck between states, uncomfortable but necessary. It’s a period of profound transition, like a caterpillar dissolving in its cocoon.
-
The Washing Machine: Your mind is desperately spinning, trying to find solid ground, but there is none. It’s trying to make sense of something that defies logic.

The Purpose of the Dark Night:
This phase is not punishment. It’s purification. It’s the ego’s last stand, as it tries to hold onto the old, familiar reality. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s essential for true transformation. It’s where you shed everything that isn’t truly you.
This is where the real work happens. This is where you learn to surrender to the unknown, to trust the process, and to find strength in the void.
